GET TO KNOW - Stacy Smith - Special Education Teacher

Ms. Smith is in her 17th year of teaching and 1st year here with us at Wright Elementary! She graduated West Texas A&M University with a Bachelors and Eastern New Mexico University with a Masters in Special Education in 2019. She went on to receive a Masters in Educational Administration from Eastern New Mexico University in 2021.

Ms. Smith stated her goal for her students this year is, “...for my students to know that they are loved and that they are highly capable of accomplishing anything they want in life.”

A NOTE FROM Ms. Smith:

I was born and raised in Perryton, Texas. I have a twin sister, Tracy, and we are as different as night and day. I have two other sisters and three brothers. I love to read and do counted cross-stitch. I have two wonderful boys. Michael and his wife Hannah live in Philadelphia and have twins, a boy and a girl, who will be five in July, Miles and Eliana. My youngest son is Patrick and he lives in Perryton. Patrick is going to nursing school and works at Ochiltree General Hospital.

When I started working for the public education system in 2003, I was working in the school cafeteria for Kindergarten and Junior High. In 2005 I was hired as the Special Education Paraprofessional at a small school district. With this new job opportunity, it did not take me long to decide that my passion was to help students who struggled in school. I immediately began my education path to become a Special Education teacher.

I started my education at Frank Phillips College in Perryton in a small room behind a real estate office. I was one of five students who were the first class to graduate from the Frank Phillips College Allen Campus in 2006 with an Associates of Science Degree.

I graduated from West Texas A&M University in Canyon, Texas in 2008.

I started working on my Masters in Special Education at Eastern New Mexico University in Portales, New Mexico in August 2015 and graduated in May 2019.

I started working on my Masters in Special Education at Eastern New Mexico University in Portales, New Mexico in August 2015 and graduated in May 2019. I recently graduated with my second Masters in Education Administration from Eastern New Mexico University in Portales, New Mexico in December 2021."

One interesting fact about Ms. Smith I was involved in a car accident in July 1989, the car I hit was stopped and I was going ten miles per hour. I broke C-1 and C-2 in my neck, the same ones that Superman broke, I should be dead or paralyzed, but by the Grace of God I am not.

Meet….Ms. Stacy Smith!
